Personality Section:
Centuries after the fall of Cocoon, Hope has certainly come a long way. At only fourteen, he was forced to carry a heavy burden given to him by the god-like beings known as fal'Cie— the complete destruction of his world. But for Hope and the five strangers that all became family to one another, they set out to make the impossible possible and in the end they created a miracle that defied their god-given task.

The once bratty little teenager who got upset, blamed others and held harsh grudges has grown up into a man that others are proud to admire and look up too. It's his consideration and charisma that has earned Hope the admiration of his peers in the Academy and the people of both Academia and then later what remains of the world. Really, he cares a lot for the well-being of the former citizens of Cocoon and he has worked tirelessly to provide for them a life free of fal'Cie influence and once Chaos flooded the world he continued to work to keep hope alive for them in a dying world. People look to him for guidance and Hope is all the more willing to help in any way he can, doing his best to understand them and their problems even if it means making his own sacrifices. It's really a double-edged sword for him, Hope is so very caring for the people around him but he takes little time for himself and although he does well to hide it-- those that know him would find it hard to ignore.

Despite all the setbacks that life threw at him, Hope has pushed back and worked even harder to overcome the challenges and missteps he faced. His pain and sorrow almost destroyed him once but now he uses it as a platform-- constantly striving to make sure no one else would ever have to experience what he has gone through. Even as the people he considered his family began to vanish around him, he never once faltered and learned to build determination from his sadness and loneliness. In truth, his determination to save the people he loves is his reason for everything that he has done in his career and it's ideals he is willing to change the world and time itself to see accomplished.

Still, even with his station and age there is a part of Hope that absolutely fears abandonment. The pain of losing his mother continues to eat away at him after all these years and watching the new family he made vanish one after the other? It's had a lasting effect on the young man. After all, this is a man that agreed the travel one-way centuries into the future because his only tie to the present, his father, had died and he had absolutely no one left in that time period. All of this, every single thing he did since the moment he joined the Academy is for the chance to reunite and save his companions that have vanished over the years because of the various sacrifices they made. That isn't to say that Hope doesn't care for the other people he shares the world with, the plans he sets in motion are also with the thought of their well-being in mind and after Chaos floods their world, they are truly all he thinks about.

He internalizes a lot of this loneliness by burying himself in his work, studies and now in taking care of humanity. Hope had learned to never allow the pain weighing down on his heart to outwardly show and in a way it has forced him to emotionally step away from people. In a way, it's perhaps fearing getting to close to someone only for them to vanish from his life once again. Stress, sadness and even fear; it's a price he had to pay (and is willing to pay over and over) when he dedicated himself as the leader of Nova Chrysalia. It's for the betterment of the people, he believes because if the citizens were to see their leader fall under the sway and despair... so would they.

All in all, Hope is still very much a good person with a good heart that wants what's best for others even if it means forgetting his own needs. A long time ago, Light once told him to find the hope he was named for and in a way, he has— having become the very hope for the future of humanity itself and completely dedicating himself to them.

Abilities Section:
Once upon a time, Hope was branded as a l’Cie and granted abilities beyond that of a normal human in order to complete the burden given to him known as a Focus. Following the events of the first game, Hope and his companions complete their Focus and enter crystal stasis but it does not last long as the goddess Etro reaches into the mortal realm and not only awakens the group but also frees the group from their burden as l’Cie.

It was this act of mercy that allowed Hope to continue using magic even after returning to his status as a completely normal human. You see, the act of Etro reaching into the mortal realm released Chaos (a matter that comes from Valhalla and a blessing given to humans by Etro, which is also what their souls are made from) into the world and this seeped into the earth. This awakened the use of magic in normal humans that could once only be used by l'Cie.

It's unknown just how much of his magic Hope is still capable of using, in the novella it's said he uses magic to battle the monsters that have infiltrated Augusta Tower but it's never specified in exact details about just what spells they are. Just to play it safe and with thoughts toward the future (considering he would probably question about the return of his l'Cie status similar to Fang), I'm going to include his full list of abilities from his former application that he's capable of using but he'll only be able to actually use the few that are currently underlined.

They are instead there to deliver hope when all is lost and to show the l'Cie that they have the strength to carry on.
